Review| Beauty of Joseon – Glowy Glass Skin Set

Glowy Glass is a modern achievement that many aims to reach for. There are so many ways to do so but this is my first interaction with skincare products that concentrated on Ginseng as the main ingredient. For that, I do have a high expectations for this set and had tested them for a while.

(Btw, did you notice that the logo looks like the Chinese word 鸽? )

Beauty of Joseon

Inspired by the aesthetic preferences of women during the Korean Joseon Dynasty who focused on taking care of their skin rather than covering it up with heavy makeup. The cult-favorite products feature hanbang ingredients (traditional Korean herbal medicine) that promote a healthier, brighter complexion.

Main - Ginseng

‘Ginseng’ was regarded as ‘God’s plant’. It has been used as a traditional remedy to enhance energy levels and combat stress for thousands of years. Ginseng stabilizes the mind and calms the nerves, effective for people with lethargy, those whose body is always cold and who feel cold all the time, those who sweat a lot, and those with weak digestive functions. Ginseng, which is valuable when ingested, also helps moisture fill deep within through hydration when used on the skin. In addition, there are research results showing that the ‘saponin’ in ginseng helps prevent pigmentation and wrinkles caused by UV rays. The ginseng used is from Bonghwa, Korea.

Hwang Jini, known as the most beautiful woman in the Joseon Dynasty, used a ginseng decoction as bath water. The rich saponin contained in ginseng helps to quickly supply moisture to the skin and maintain it deep inside the skin for a long time to help create healthy skin. Ginseng root extract is also used in these products. This ingredient helps to improve wrinkles on the sensitive skin around the eyes by increasing collagen production and helping to increase the elasticity of our skin.

Ginseng Cleansing Oil

Review

According to the brand, this product contains 50% soybean oil, which is very skin-friendly. It is extracted from Glycine Soja and contains oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid. It acts as a conditioning agent to smooth the skin and dissolve waste without clogging pores. It also contains 0.1% ginseng seed oil, which aids in the promotion of healthy skin, the prevention of potential skin damage, and the protection of the skin from external stimuli.

I was not disappointed when I first tried it on makeup. I was quite impressed after putting it on my skin. The first half pump felt thick and dense, which may be typical of soybean oil. This required another half pump because it was too heavy on the skin to spread. I was concerned that it would be difficult to remove, but it washes off easily after contact with water. It also easily emulsifies. This brought me to my next point of concern: the after-finish feel on the skin.

However, before reaching the end of the cleansing process, the smell caught my attention. When I sniffed it after pumping it out, I couldn’t smell much. It was faint, for sure, but I couldn’t smell much. Then, when I spread it across my face, oh the smell suddenly rushed into me. It wasn’t bad, I was just unprepared. The smell of herbal ginseng and earth, it was like I traveled back in time to the dynasty era.

Anyway, back to the after-finish feel. It caught my surprise the most, my skin felt so supple! I kid you not, it feels like baby skin! I can’t say that it’s very miraculous but it really felt so. Cleansing has never felt better! This intriguing blend of Korea’s best history and nature results in an effective and highly comfortable cleansing oil that strikes a perfect balance between being gentle on the skin and removing waterproof makeup.

Ginseng Essence Water

Review

This essence water has been formulated with 80% ginseng root water and ginseng complex. The brand states that these two main ingredients help to keep the skin hydrated with the boosting effects from 2% Niacinamide (anti-wrinkle agent), 0.04% Adenosine (sebum control,) along with 4 safe ingredients: ginseng root extract, ginseng berry extract, ginseng root ferment filtrate, and ginseng root water.

The texture is watery but it has a clinging/jiggling effect, it’s like water on a lotus leaf. The smell of ginseng was evident but not overwhelming. Smelling it really feels like one of the young girls in the dynasty era using it before meeting their ‘love at first sight. With the cleansing oil, my skin felt even more energetic and refreshed. It’s not always that I get to use a product that does this. So, this product is special like that to me.

This essence water is a great choice if you are looking for a hydrating and moisturizing product with ginseng that is also lightweight. It will leave your skin feeling smooth and supple. Besides, ginseng is said to help reduce any irritation from UV rays or chemical exfoliants, so it’s great to use this on an everyday basis. It is very easy to use and it is suitable for both men and women. Just pour it into your hands or onto a cotton pad and pat gently over your face.

Revive Eye Serum : Ginseng + Retinal

Review

Aging is a natural process that everyone goes through, but due to the sensitive nature of our eye area, the skin around our eyes tends to age faster than in other areas. As a result, wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles may appear (which is also what I am experiencing). When we lack the protein that provides elasticity to the skin’s dermal layer, collagen and hyaluronic acid levels drop, resulting in wrinkles. This eye cream combines 10% ginseng root extract and 2% Retinal Liposome, which is one of the most effective ingredients in preventing premature aging, to help improve wrinkles on the sensitive skin around the eyes.

A few words about the retina: Retinal is a vitamin A derivative that has been shown in clinical trials to help reduce dark circles under the eyes. When vitamin A is consumed through food, it goes through metabolic processes that change it from retinol to retinal to retinoic acid. Retinal, which is directly converted to retinoic acid, works faster and more effectively on the skin than retinol, which must first be converted to retinal. The Beauty of Joseon made use of ‘retinal liposome,’ which was stabilized by breaking down the retinal into smaller elements, enclosing it in liposomes, and then adding ingredients like natural lipids and oils. Furthermore, they combined ingredients such as glycerin, niacinamide, and cholesterol to create a more effective product. As a result, it’s not surprising that the combination of these ingredients has produced harmonious results.

I have been using this eye cream along with a rose quartz guasha tool, these two paired up together boost the blood flow around my eyes, working together with one getting absorbed into the skin whilst the other helps to push the stagnant blood flow. It has a silky texture that spreads softly and provides a feeling of nourishment, yet leaves no stickiness after use. There isn’t any smell from this eye cream so it’s rather smell-less. The cream may look a little intimidating with the color but it is safe. Once it gets absorbed into the skin, it wouldn’t make your skin look more yellow or orange. So far, this eye cream has been doing really fine for me, even when I’m solely using it without the guasha tool.

Revive Serum: Ginseng + Snail Mucin

Review

This serum was previously known as the “Repair Serum: Ginseng + Snail Mucin”. It has  63.36% Ginseng root water and 3% Snail secretion filtrate. It’s worth noting that ginseng is typically used in luxury herbal cosmetics, but Beauty of Joseon included so much ginseng water in this serum instead of purified water. While ginseng aids in anti-winkle and anti-pigmentation properties, snail secretion filtrate aids in the repair of damaged skin and scars. It promotes skin cell regeneration, which aids in the restoration of damaged skin and the prevention of skin aging. It also contains collagen and elastin, which help maintain skin elasticity while also improving wrinkles when combined with ginseng.

This tiny bottle looks lesser than other serums but it actually has about the same amount as an Ordinary normal-sized serum (30ml). The snail mucin gives a runny and slimy texture that is acceptable. Personally, one pump is enough.

Sometimes, snail mucin will irritate my skin, but this one is fine with my skin. While the serum is meant to boost the effects of all products combined, the serum kind of needs a longer term of usage before showing any signs of results.
