The Butterfly Project x Hilton Spa & Gym - Health Awareness Day
w/ Minc.Care, Plants Origins
and Naturally Handmade
Self-care is such an important thing yet it is easily neglected because we were so distracted by all the stress and workload in life. All the responsibilities of being a parent, a financially-supporting child, an adult, a lover, and an employee are just drowning us with tons of errands and tasks.Â
We have to worry about other people and our finances so much that we often forget about ourselves, resulting in neglecting and detrimental our mental and physical health. Not to mention that, once our health deteriorates, it will never reverse back to its original state and we can only try to make it less bad with drugs and supplements. However, we shouldn’t always rely on medical or pharmaceutical help if we can avoid deteriorating our health with the effort of damage prevention and natural self-care methods.
It is because of that, Hilton KL had organized a health awareness event for bloggers to regain their focus onto their health. On the day of 17th August 2019 (Saturday), I was invited to join the event that was sponsored by Hilton Spa and Gym to focus on our health and wellness from 3pm – 6pm.Â
Hilton Kuala Lumpur and The Butterfly Project had teamed up with 3 more vendors to give us 4 different sessions during the event. See the tabs below to know what each session are.

Session 1
Self-Care Session by Minnie Chang Minc.Care
The Self-Care Session was held by Minc.Care, which was founded by Minnie Chang and her co-founder. Minnie created Minc.Care, a self-couching service centre that provides a safe space with practical resources to help burnout individuals to reignite their passion and purpose in life.
The examples of services that they provide are:
– Educational information on emotional well-being
– 1:1 coaching service
– Mini self-care parties
For this session, the activity was held in one of the yoga room in Hilton’s Gym facility room.
Minnie was a very open-minded and observing person. She’s really good at identifying the underlying issues/concerns.Â
After we were told to pick a spot and sit down, we were also told to open the goodie bag that Minc.Care had provided us. A stack of post-its was also laid in front of us. We were told to write one of the recent struggles we have in life and then stick it into the white paper in the centre of the room.
During the session, we were asked to talk about a few things that we’ve been struggling in our lives. A lady spoke out and I followed up with my stories. Both of us had the same issues but we have a life-chapter gap. I shed a few tears tho, kinda what happens when I talk about things I bottled-up deep inside. Â
At the session itself was relieving, though I can’t speak for those who didn’t say anything. I suppose everyone plays one role here: the listener or the speaker. While the speaker makes an obvious role, the listener plays either an equally large or a larger role.
Before we left the venue, we were told to checkout the other items in the goodie bag. There was a few pieces of paper, a pen and an envelope. One piece of paper (the one with ‘Dear’) is to write a letter to ourselves, whether it’s for our future-self, past-self or our current-self, which would then be placed into the envelope. Another piece of paper (far back) is a self-care habit tracker with a section for habit rules. The third paper on top (the most visible one), is a list of Self-love Journal Prompts where there are 25 items for us to write a journal whenever we are ready.

Session 2
Aromatherapy Oil-blending Workshop by Dashindra Siva Plant Origins
Plant Origins is a new brand established by Signature Market, hence you can find the products on the Signature Market website. This brand focuses on home and body care products that emphasize on safeness, cleanliness and environmental-friendliness. They sell items like laundry powder, dishwashing soap, essential oils, body soaps and hand soaps.
The team had put out the display with their products along with an essential oil diffuser to relax our senses. They filled in with water and essential oil into the diffuser and let it do its work. The whole place smelled so good though.
For this event, the members of the Signature Market came by and showed us how to do essential oil blending with their essential oil range. Our host for this session was Dashindra (also known as Dainty Dash Beauty) Dashindra and her team had set up essential oils, carrier oils, amber roller bottles and a list of menu for everyone. We got to choose one type in the menu or just come up with a blend. I’m not so creative with essential oil blending since I still needed to be more familiarize with their functions and effects but I used my sense of smell for this.
For my blend, I wanted to create something that helps me to sleep, so I picked ‘Good Night Sleep.’ The recipe itself has three types of essential oils but as I was blending it, it felt like something is missing. So, I sniffed more of other essential oils and found out that, by adding tea tree oil into the blend, it felt more complete.
After mixing the essential oils, we have to dilute the essential oils with a carrier oil (in this case, coconut oil) then we put on the roller cap and we’re good to go.
The result of an essential oil blend was a very smooth-textured and relaxing product. I get to sleep better after rolling these between my neck and ears. There are also other ways to use the essential oil, such as applying oils to the contact points of the foot, foot massaging, on the wrists, the temples, upper back and abdomen.Â
If you’re interested in getting the essential oils, you can check it out from their websites through the button-link below. As for the carrier oil, you would have to purchase it somewhere else. I personally have experiences with these oils for my soaping projects and you can easily find carrier oils online.
Session 3
Vegan Beauty Mask Workshop by Bavani Gopala Krishnan Naturally Handmade
For the next activity, we were introduced to Naturally Handmade, an artisan of fine oils and butter. They emphasize on being 100% natural, vegan, no harsh chemicals, no cruelty and using recyclable packaging.
They sell lip balms, spa salts, deodorant, feminine wash, butter scrubs, face masks, body serum, lotions, hand sanitizer and clay masks. You can check out some of the products through the photos below.
In this session, we were given a goodie bag, a container with base clay and a booklet. Our instructor (aka owner of Naturally Handmade), Krishnan, had guided us patiently towards what we should do during and after the activity.
We were also given 5 choices of base clays and 7 choices of powders. Krishnan told us that we can choose 1 tbsp of base clay and 2 tsp of powder for our own clay mask.
For my clay mask, I decided to mix Rhassoul clay, Calendula Powder, and Pomegranate Powder. I picked Rhassoul clay as the base clay mainly because I don’t have that at home (I make soaps so I have stock of those powders). Then, I picked Calendula Powder and Pomegranate Powder for collagen, detoxifying and moisturizing.
We were told to bring home and put some coconut oil or olive oil into the clay mixture in order to create a mask paste. I can’t wait to try it!
Session 4
Indulge and Destress by Hilton Spa and Gym.
Before we went back, we were given the privilege to look around the Spa & Gym Facilities. You can reach the venue by going to the 8th floor in Hilton KL Hotel. Once you’ve arrived at the entrance, just turn left go all the way to the end until you’ve reached the elevator. The male changing room is directly next to the counter and the female changing room is upstairs. All the spa facilities are only shared by one gender.
The counter and the facilities are available from 6am onwards until 11pm. It is very suitable for people who work from 9am-5pm. You also didn’t need to bring towels because they do provide them for free. They also sell swimming suits, swimming gears, sunscreens and facial products in case you forgot to pack one and couldn’t go to the mall.
On the other side of the counter, there’s the gym room with a very spacious to be in. There are plenty of machines for you to use and there are mirrors as tall as the wall for you to watch your posture as you work out. There is also a counter to cater to your gym-needs.
The gym room also comes with a see-through yoga room for their private classes. Hilton KL will prepare schedules for every week and you can go into any classes that you like.
Let’s move to the female changing room now. We were first greeted by the vanity table and oh my it was so pretty. They also have hairdryer for you to blow dry your hair after a good shower.
There are also plenty of lockers here and you do not need to worry about not getting one at all. They also came it two sizes. There are a few changing rooms as well.
The toilet here is also very clean, nice and spacious. It matters to me a lot because I cannot stand dirty and/or small toilets. I get shivers. Anyway, you can also sit outside for a small chill-time if you need to take a short break from the activities.
Walkout out the other door, you can find the shower rooms at the wet area. They have about 6 shower rooms and 4 sinks so that you won’t need to cat-fight with another person.
The wet room is also where the jacuzzi and sauna room are. However, please make sure you’ve read these safety notes before going using these facilities.
Right next to the signs, you will find the jacuzzi on top of the staircase and the sauna room right next to it. I couldn’t walk into the jacuzzi room because I’m not sure if I should so I don’t know if there’s a control inside.
