Take A Look & Review| Althea A’bloom Launch and Review

Althea’s A’Bloom launch was hosted on a Saturday afternoon (20th April 2019) at Softsrve Ice Cream, Dessert & Balloon Bar and it was their very first physical launching party with quite many attendances (30-60 people if I’m not mistaken). The theme, which was quite obvious, was pink! Everything during the event was matched nicely with pink colour as well.
Aside from the “main characters,” Althea had also set up stations and booths for everyone who had not tried their other products to try and understand them better by giving a real-life testing experience.
On the display table, there are two sets of items for almost every product. You can see their rose body mist, Real Fresh Skin Detox, cleansing oil, sunblock and bubbling milk mask on their displaying table. If you are curious about these products, you can read them up from my blog posts to know more about them as Althea doesn’t have a physical store for you to trial and test.
If you are a new user, you can get a discount with my referral link!
They also have their very new Waterful Green Bamboo Pads and their Calming Cream products, which works amazingly with sensitive and dehydrated skin (aka my skin too).
In the meantime, they also had photographers on the day to take pictures of the event and us! 😀

Food

Food makes everything better, so having to work with Softsrve was actually a pretty good idea. They have certain items on the menu for the day, such as lychee ice cream, charcoal waffles, watermelon soda and lemon soda to fit the theme of A’bloom’s new products.
Every one of us has a redeem card and while I’d love to redeem everything, I just had a heavy lunch before going to the event. However, someone ordered the waffle though and they said it was actually good (very filling as well).
Well, I couldn’t eat the waffle but I could definitely eat the ice cream! It was lychee mixed with vanilla flavour and the combination is actually good. Lychee is actually not my go-to flavour but after this, I think I could give it a “go” whenever I see it. I’ve tried Softsrve’s mango ice creams and they are amazing as well.
We also ordered soda. I had lemon soda whilst the girls have watermelon soda. They taste just nice without being too sweet. Quite refreshing too especially when it was a hot and humid day, following rain during one of the hours when we were there.
Althea also had other food prepared for us and they look yummy but I really couldn’t find a space in my tummy to try them. My lunch was really heavy.

Display Booths

Just now, I’ve mentioned with the display booths for their previous products. On the other side, Althea had their masks displayed in Softsrve’s display fridge! What a fun idea though. They also have details about the masks and I’ll show you in a bit from the Review section.

The side tables were transformed into a vanity table that consists not just their new products, Meringue Puffs, but also their makeup range that was launched a few months ago. The Meringue puffs, in Giant size and Baby size, was a really nice touch to their makeup range because it’s made perfectly for their concealer.

If you have not seen their makeup range, it consists of a boujee eyeshadow palette, 4 lip tints, 4 concealers and 2 eye glitters. You can read about them from the links I’ve tagged to see if you’ll like the products too.

Launch Introduction and Briefing

During the event, we were also given a briefing to understand what was made available during the A’bloom launch and what can we do.
We were briefed by the manager of Althea Angel Associates, the Head of Creative Communications of Althea (aka Mamasan from TBP) and (if I’m not mistaken; I have a bad memory), the person in charge of event space.

Review

Here’s my general opinion when I first saw the products: oh my gosh they are so freaking cute; look at these baby meringue puffs can they become even cuter like OH MY GOSH LOOK AT HOW BIG THEY’VE GROWN; HAHAHHAHHA WATER-ME-LONG?; awww Avo-cuddle-me I need a cuddle too uwu; BLACKHEADS CAN DISAPPEAR BY USING THIS STICK?! THAT’S BLACK MAGIC, LITERALLY

and there you go. Now, for a serious review, please read from below:

Giant Meringue Puff

RM8 | 48x46mm

“Dessert, anyone?”
High density and versatile latex-free foam puff.
Feature (3)
  • Fast & Easy – Expands to 1.5x larger for fast coverage
  • Perfect Makeup – Blends effortlessly for a flawless finish
  • 2-way finish – Works wet (glossy finish) or dry (matte finish) for different effects

Not to mention, it is also FITI approved – Free from heavy metals: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Chrome VI (cr VI), Cadmium (Cd), Antimony (Sb)
How to use:
Use it when dry for a matte finish or you can use it wet after soaking up the puff in running water and gently squeezing out the water to expand it.
Narrow part: for detail makeup (eyes, nose, lips)
Wide part: Use for overall face to cover a wide area easily
How to clean:
Soak it under running water and wash it with cleansing products. Then, still under running water, keep squeezing until there are no bubbles left. Squeeze until dry and keep under the cool area.
Note: it should be replaced every 1-3 months (but a lazy bum like me will continue using it as long as it’s not mouldy or worn out; bad role model, please do not follow)

Verdict:

I must say, this is probably the best makeup sponge I’ve come across. Now, I’ve been using a denser and tougher makeup sponge from a reputable brand in China (known through Taobao) and had been annoyed by the other brands made available in the local market because they are too soft and/or they suck up products too much/fast.

This though, this is the perfect balance of density, toughness and product absorption. Now, it doesn’t absorpt as fast as other brands (I’d give it a 20% absorption rate on foundation but it absorbs water very quickly tho, almost as quick as a snap) and while it is dense enough to blend the products on your face, it is also soft/tough enough to not make you feel like you’re punching your face. I know some brands are pretty soft to the point where you’re squishing the sponge flat to your face as you blend, but this one remains in nice shape.

While it is hard for me to demonstrate fully, I highly suggest you buy especially when it’s only RM8, like hello, it’s the cheapest available in the market! Even cheaper than the one I bought from Taobao!

Baby Meringue Puffs

RM11 | 30x28mm

“Dessert, anyone?”
Same as Giant Meringue Puff but just babies.
They are baby versions.

Verdict:

They are much smaller so they can be a little bit denser than the giant one since they don’t have as much space within the foam. I personally feel that this is perfect for people who are very precise with their makeup or with their client’s makeup but not for lazy bums like me who will use the Giant meringue puffs for everything.

They still make a cute display item tho!

Verdict:

These sheets are really thin but they are filled with mask juice. Actually, I’d say it’s overfilled with mask juice and it’s a good thing because it means that Althea isn’t stingy with the ampoule essence. They really fit nicely to the corners of my face, especially the centre. One thing tho, the mask is wide on the side and doesn’t really cover a lot of the lip area. Other than that, everything went really well with the mask.
You see, some masks will fall off whenever you walk around but this one grips really well. Not only that, the mask was very hydrating and it does not sting at all (I have experiences of stingy masks from certain brands). It is Zoelie Approved for sensitive skin!
Let’s also talk about the after-use of the masks. Some masks leave a thick and uncomfortable layer of mask juice on the skin and it is usually unbearable. When that happens, I’ll wipe it off with toner and cotton pads. A’bloom masks do leave a layer of mask juice but they do the opposite of what normal masks would behave: the layer is completely breathable and bearable. Not only that, while it can be a little tacky right after the mask was removed, the remains of the mask juice was completely absorbed overnight. I woke up with my skin feeling like I haven’t had tackiness on it but also feeling hydrated. That being said, while the absorption rate was not the best, the usage of these masks at night can also substitute night moisturizing creams simply because they are thick enough yet breathable.

BHA Blackhead Blaster

RM16 | 8g

“Blackhead out without the ouch”
Features (2)
  • Gentle & Effective Formula that gives fast results with natural and non-irritant ingredients through purifying and clarifying pores instantly.
  • Treats & Prevents by melting away impurities and prevent future breakout and/or formation of blackheads and whiteheads.
How to use:
Use it as Exfoliation & Sebum wash off pack or body scrub
Step 1: Apply onto targeted areas after cleansing. You can open up the pores by placing a warm towel onto the skin before using the product.
Step 2: Gently massage in a circular motion to release trapped oil and dirt
Step 3: Rinse off with water (best if lukewarm). Recommended time before rinsing: 1 min.

Verdict:

This item is very, very subtle for me to see any results mainly because I don’t have very obvious blackheads. My only troubled area is my nose when it comes to blackheads and whiteheads and I normally don’t have bigger pores since Althea skincare products did a good job at maintaining my skin but I can tell you that I saw those tiny pores being cleansed after using this item. It’s very hard to tell for other people and you have to look really close to it.

Since results aren’t what I can really share (I’m sure other bloggers have a better demonstration on that), I can describe to you what it really felt like, after applying it. The product smells very much like tea tree oil and it doesn’t have either of the heating or cooling effects during usage. This can be a relief for people with sensitive skin. It also doesn’t sting your skin because it was made to be very gentle for all skin types.

At one time, I left it on my nose overnight and when I woke up, my nose wasn’t as black as it was when I first applied. It’s still a little grey-ish but I had lots of sebum on my nose. If you tend to sleep on your back or your face very close to the pillow, I wouldn’t suggest you do that though.
This product was also made to be very convenient for those who travel often and has frequent blackhead problems. You literally just need to apply it for about a minute or so then rinse it off to treat your targeted areas. Not to mention that you can use it as a body scrub too, albeit it doesn’t have beads (which is good) for scrubbing. I wouldn’t call this a chemical scrub too because it works differently.

I personally would recommend you to try it. Perhaps, using it after a good manual pore dirt-extracting would help to further lessen your blackheads. Don’t use it overnight like I did though because I think it didn’t do anything :>

Cream Piping

Whilst this was made available since the beginning of the event, I only got to do it at near-end. Mamasan had lots of cream piping tools available and she also brought it to the event. These are basically decorative accessories to the makeup product casing, like cushion products or powder products. In this case, Althea gave us the cream piping experience with their Petal Velvet Powder in translucent.

You also get to choose from a jar of accessories. Most of them were already taken and from what I can tell with what’s left, the majority of the accessories are dessert-themed.
I was feeling pink and red during that day so mine was filled with things like pink chocolate, strawberries, pink doughnuts and more. The kiwi was there to give a nice touch to the red colours.
Sharon and Nicole (blogger fwens) were also doing it at the same time as I was. Here are our final looks for the cream piping activity!
Sharon went for all-purple while Nicole was very into everything. In the end, she settled with a foamy sea of cream filled with assorted desserts.

aaaand here’s me trying to get a good picture of us together (Nicole in the middle and Sharon on the right) and it was a bit difficult due to my short arms but look at Nicole being so cute and hungry 😂

Selfie w/ Fwens

Before I left, I’ve also managed to grab a few selfies with the all-time favourite people during blogger events and activities. Starting with the OG selfie king Eros.

Met with the mommy bloggers too, Bee Lee and Mira.

Also with Cheryl and my favourite sweet, sweet gal Li Ya Na.

Last but not least, my favourite fashionista boi, Asyraf.
